Brahma-vichara is the inquiry into God, the Absolute, Brahman. It enables one to see God within and without, to recognize that all that exists is nothing but Brahman and that, in reality, nothing exists apart from Him.
This retreat is dedicated to the direct, transcendent path followed by the ancient siddhas, avadhutas, rishis, and gods. All yogas—Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Laya Yoga, Mantra Yoga, and Sannyasa Yoga—have one goal: the realization of Brahman, the Supreme Source, Creator, and Lord of the worlds.
Brahma-vichara:
- unites all paths;
- is the method, wisdom, and fruit;
- leads to laya (the dissolution of karma) and Moksha (Liberation);
- is Sahajya itself—the natural state.
“It is the foundation, the path, and the fruit; the view, meditation, and conduct.”
Shri Guru Swami Vishnudevananda Giri, “Brahma-vichara Upadesha”
Brahman is contemplated as:
- eternal
- all-pervading
- all-encompassing
- beyond time and action
- indivisible
- filled with bliss
nirguna—without qualities or attributes
Brahma-vichara is extolled by the siddha Gorakhnath, who states that one second spent inquiring into the Absolute surpasses all other methods. The rishi Vasishtha speaks of the highest form of worshiping God through Brahma-vichara while instructing Rama in the “Yoga Vasishtha.”
“Those who know the Absolute know that He is space, consciousness, and bliss.”
Goraksha Paddhati
Our Self is eternal, free, and perfect. It is the Absolute itself, God playing at being human. This retreat is for those who are ready to look not outward, but directly into the Source.
